1. Install AccuTracking App

AccuTracking requires BlackBerry firmware v4.1 or later. AccuTracking app has 2 flavors for Blackberries: regular version and covert version. You can install via any of the following ways:

1.1). Install from BlackBerry App World (regular version only. For covert version, please see 1.2) below.

Or,

1.2). Install from the Accutracking server: Use your phone bar code reader to scan the following QR codes, or open the phone web browser and go to https://secure.accutracking.com/download/bb/, then follow the screen to download and install the app. You'll have a choice of downloading the regular version or the covert version of the AccuTracking app.

Or,

1.3) Download the ALX and COD files from https://secure.accutracking.com/download/bb/, then use Blackberry Desktop Software to load the AccuTracking app to your phone.

Or,

1.4) (For BES Admin only) Download the ALX and COD files from https://secure.accutracking.com/download/bb/, then push it to phones together with the AccuTracking configuration.

How to check your phone's firmware version: On BlackBerry, check your firmware by going to "Options" > "About". It should show "Wireless Handheld v4.1.xxx". If it's older than that, you need to update your firmware from your carrier.

2. Configure App

2.1). When running for the first time, the program will ask you to provide a Tracker ID. The tracker ID is obtained from the following steps:

2.2). Go to https://secure.accutracking.com/signup.php to register (first week free trial). Then login into your account, on "Manage Units" page, choose an easy to remember nick name for your phone, click "Add" button. An ID will be generated for you.

2.3). Start AccuTracking on the phone, press the phone wheeler and select "Setup...". Move the cursor to tracker ID field, enter the tracker ID just generated and press the wheeler, choose "Save". You will get firewall alert messages on the screen warning that AccuTracking is trying to make network connections, you should choose "Allow all UDP connections" and "Allow all HTTP connections" on the screen. Otherwise, the online tracking won't work.

2.4). If your phone is a company phone behind corporate BES server, perform the following steps. Otherwise, go to step 2.5 below.

2.4.1) From the AccuTracking screen on the Blackberry, press the wheeler and choose "Setup"
2.4.2) Move the cursor to "Connect via BES". If your phone is a company phone behind corporate BES server, enable "Connect via BES". Otherwise, unselect that.
2.4.3) Press the escape key and choose "Save" to save the settings.
2.4.4) Restart AccuTracking.

2.5). To access the main menu, on the AccuTracking screen, press scroll wheel on the phone, you will see a list of menu items. To quit AccuTracking, select "Exit".

2.6). Some basic operations:
- Select "Virtual compass" from main menu for a compass.
- "Run in background" command will send the application to background while still running.
- "Setup" command will bring up the option screen to set the sending interval, Smart Sending preferences (see FAQ for more details).
- "Exit" will terminate the AccuTracking application.

Note: for some Blackberry models, you might need to change phone settings or install the third-party apps to keep the GPS open.

3. Online Tracking

3.1). With the AccuTracking application running on your phone, go to an open air place and wait a few minutes until it says 'Latitude Longitude Speed Heading Altitude' and the status line shows "Sent" with a timestamp. Your position, speed and heading data has now been sent to the server and will be sent periodically.

If you see the error message on the screen reads "Cannot connect", you don't have the right data plan from your phone carrier. See the troubleshooting section below.

3.2). Log into http://www.accutracking.com and click "Tracking". You will see the locations and history of your phone.
